Hi. I’m Susie Meserve, writer, mom, dabbling Buddhist, college writing professor, and former reluctant world traveler.

I write about my experiences with anxiety, modern motherhood, (in)fertility, relationships, and other realities. My personal essays have appeared in the New York Times Motherlode blog, Salon, Elle, and Offbeat Mama.

I’m also the author of a memoir called “Quiver,” for which I’m seeking representation. I was plagued by terrible anxiety for much of my childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. Then, when I was 28, I met and fell in love with a fearless guy who asked me to put my things in storage, quit my job, take nothing but a backpack, and travel around the world with him for a year. Terrified, I said yes. “Quiver” is the story of that trip—how I made peace with my anxiety, how I realized that love can make you brave, and how I ended up married to that fearless man.

If you’re interested in speaking with me about it, you can find me on the Contact page. Read an excerpt here.

I also write poetry. My poems have appeared in Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, Bateau, Redactions, Cream City Review, Willamette Week, Toad the Journal, Terminus, Red Rock Review, The Cafe Review, Cimarron Review, Rock & Sling, and more.

You can read some of my work on the Essays and the Other Work pages.
